To anyone local, Mill Bay will instantly make them reminisce about one of the most beautiful beaches in the South Hams, the home of Herring Shoes. Naturally, this was the inspiration for naming our latest addition to our catalogue from the exclusive Tanner Bates.

Made out of canvas with a leather handle, the Mill Bay tote encapsulates that feeling of freedom, adventure, and unforgettable days out with friends and family. You can almost smell the sea breeze!

Measuring 36 x 29 x 10 cm it’s the perfect size for your daily essentials (including your children’s discarded items they inevitably no longer want to carry) and the canvas body ensures it’s robust and rugged enough for daily use. So not only is the Mill Bay bag practical, aesthetically pleasing and well made, you even have the choice of three colours (we do like to spoil our customers).

As always with Herring Shoes, the devil is in the detail. The canvas is made from 18oz Hally Stevenson traditional waxed cotton and held together with hand-peened copper rivets to ensure longevity and add that handmade, bespoke feel. Let’s not forget that final local touch. Your tote bag is designed and made down the road from us by hand at the exquisite Tanner Bates workshop, Dartington.

Whether you’re looking for a gift or you fancy treating yourself, this is an easy win and a dead cert crowd pleaser. The hardest decision will be which colour you’re going to pick!

Owning a truly bespoke piece does come with a small delay on delivery as they are made to order. We aim to get your bag made between 3-4 weeks from placing your order (if it’s time sensitive just let us know and we will do our best to get it to you sooner). As they say, the best things in life are worth waiting for and the Mill Bay certainly falls into that category.
