Deck shoes are named for their use by boating men. The deck of a ship or smaller craft can often be slippery so good grip is a key feature. Secondly the decks should be kept clean so a non-marking sole is important. They are not waterproof as they are designed for a water environment, but the 360 degree lace will ensure that the shoee stays securely on the foot, whatever the waves throw at you.
Of course most deck shoes will never see the deck of a boat as they are now extremely poular as a go-to shoe for summer days. Their lightweight, durable soles and easy slip-on features make them ideal for days by the beach. The best deck shoes are reckoned to come from Portugal so that is where our Herring deck shoes are made.
